2006 was the year when the Blues Foundation changed the name of the W.C. Handy Awards to the Blues Music Awards. The award ceremony and the VIP dinner the night before took place on May 10-11, 2006 in Memphis, Tennessee. As is the case each year, this event represents a gathering of all aspects of the blues industry. This event reflects the achievements of the year before.
